Borax Safety Information

Whilst Borax is a safe product to use it is important to be aware of how to use it properly and of action to take in case of mishaps.

Do not use borax around food, and make sure you rinse borax out of clothes and off surfaces before use.

Keep out of the reach of children and pets.

Inhalation: Remove the person from the source of exposure and keep warm and at rest.  In severe cases seek medical attention - do not use mouth-to-mouth ventilation.

Ingestion: Wash out mouth with water.  Give sips of cold water or milk to soothe the affected parts.  Do not induce vomiting.  Obtain medical attention.

Skin contact: Immediately flood the skin with large quantities of water, preferable under a shower.  Remove contaminated clothing as washing proceeds.  Contaminated clothing should be washed before re-use.  Obtain medical attention if blistering occurs or redness persists.

Eye contact: Immediately flood the eye with plenty of water for at least 10 minutes, holding the eye open.  Obtain medical attention urgently.

Spillage: Sweep or vacuum into a suitable container.  For solutions soak up with sawdust before cleaning up and disposing of.

Use and Handling of Borax

Handling: Use in a well ventilated room and avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing.

Storage: Storage area should be cool, dry and well ventilated.  Store away from sources of heat or ignition.  Keep packaging closed to prevent ingress of moisture.

Use:  It is advisable to wear rubber gloves when using borax.
